Who is behind ThermAI?
Our History
At ThermAI, we started with a simple yet powerful vision: harness the untapped potential of wasted heat generated by cryptocurrency mining. What began as frustration with managing excess heat from hobby mining rigs led to a realisation—why waste energy when we can use it twice?
By water-cooling mining equipment, integrating renewable solar power, and redirecting the generated heat to warm homes, we’re creating an innovative solution that tackles fuel poverty, supports decarbonisation, and decentralises computing power away from energy-intensive data centres. Additionally, we aim to utilise mining rigs and future ThermAI Nodes for real-world computational tasks beyond traditional proof-of-work hashing, further enhancing the efficiency and value of our solution.
Meet our Founder
Chris’s journey to founding ThermAI uniquely blends his technical roots with his passion for sustainability. Beginning his career as a heating engineer, Chris gained extensive experience managing large-scale heat pump installations for social housing. This background provided critical insight into the complexities of efficient domestic heating and the realities faced by communities struggling with fuel poverty.
Driven by a personal interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency mining, Chris faced the practical challenge of cooling his own mining rigs. Recognising the enormous waste of energy inherent in traditional mining setups, he envisioned a way to utilise this heat effectively, aligning perfectly with his professional experience in renewable heating systems.
Chris’s commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency led him to integrate his mining activities with solar power, making his rigs run entirely free of charge. He quickly realised that scaling this concept could revolutionise home heating and decentralise computational power, benefiting the environment and significantly improving the quality of life for those living in social housing.
ThermAI represents the fusion of Chris’s expertise, personal values, and dedication to innovation. With his leadership, the project aims to transform the way society views and utilises energy, ensuring warmth, sustainability, and financial security for vulnerable communities.
